Saskatchewan Masonry Institute Inc. The
Saskatchewan Masonry Institute (SMI) officially came into being
in 1980 when members of the Saskatoon and Regina
Masonry Contractors Associations came together to form a province-wide
organization. But
the roots of SMI go much deeper – back to
the province’s
early years. The first building boom attracted skilled bricklayers
and stone masons from eastern Canada and Europe. Their workmanship
lives on in many of our finest buildings – land titles
offices, court houses, schools, hospitals and more. Today,
SMI is the official voice of the masonry industry in the province.
It is comprised
of professional masonry contractors and
suppliers
who are dedicated to the promotion of quality masonry.
•
SMI promotes and markets masonry to a variety of stakeholders – design
professionals, owners & developers, government
agencies and municipalities.
• SMI
represents employers on apprenticeship training through
the Apprenticeship Trade Advisory Board and the
Curriculum Review Board.
• SMI
represents the masonry industry in Saskatchewan and
is recognized as a source of masonry information for
residents.
